Indians and Puritans

Fancy celebrating Thanksgiving? At our school we did!!! The Mayflower brought us two Puritans. A native American was awaiting to welcome them as her ancestors did long long ago. The three of them told us about the origins of this special day in the USA. After their lecture, our students wrote their thank you messages that were posted into our super cool turkey box and later displayed in the main entrance hall. There are always so many reasons to be thankful for!!!

Broadstairs again!!!

Last October teachers Joel Gallardo and María Victoria Fernández took our 3º de ESO students to our favourite destination in England. There our pupils stayed with native families and attended lessons at Kent School of English. They also had real fun activities, such as hiking, pub and karaoke night, going to the cinema and barn dancing. The programme included visits to nearby Ramsgate, Canterbury Cathedral and King's College in Cambridge. They had an unforgettable experience as you can tell from the photos below:

Climate Week

This has been a climate and environmental awareness week for our students. They have shown their concern for the worrying Climate Change Issue with posters written in English. Some works are so artistic, creative and imaginative that we couldn't help displaying them in the main entrance hall, so that all the visitors to school could admire them. Here you are some stunning samples:

Not a Good-Bye, but a See You Soon!!!

Pete, these eight months have flown so fast. You are leaving today, but we don't feel like saying good-bye, but see you soon. You know you will always be welcome at our school, so come back whenever you want!!!

3º de ESO and Recycling

This year different subject teachers have proposed 3º de ESO students to work on the issue of recycling.
In English the unit Recycle your Fashion finished with students' own fashion designs using recycled materials, such as plastic, cardboard, old clothes, paper and most important of all: work, enthusiasm, motivation, creativity and imagination. Some of them were amazing as seen in the photos below.
No wonder some of our students may become famous fashion designers in the future dressing kings, queens and celebrities as Lorenzo Caprile, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada or Alejandro Gómez Palomo do or maybe founding clothing companies such as Ecoalf imitating the example of Javier Goyeneche and his concern about the environment.

A Cool Technology Project

Can't you get a big town inside a small school? We can!!! How? That's easy thanks to our technology teacher Jorge García Angélica and his 3º and 4º de ESO students with the help of other teachers such as Aurelio Vega and Francisco Dueñas. They have developed a stunning project not only shown at our school, but beyond as their "Smart City Project" has taken part in the XI Encuentro de Ciencias at IES Bezmiliana on 2th May and in FANTEC/19 in the Facultad of Ingeniería at the UMA on 24th May. There is also an information brochure in three different languages: Spanish, English and Portugese because our English assistant teacher and a Brazilian exchange student have also been involved in this fabulous initiative.
With this ambitious project, Jorge doesn't simply want to teach technology making use of 3D printers and stuff like that. He also aims to make young people concerned about the worrying evinronmental issue and we think he got it.
According to him, this work will be retaken up next year. In the meanwhile we can enjoy some photos taken at the different exhibitions:

Gibraltar 2019

The trip to Gibraltar has become a must at our school. Last Friday, our 3º de ESO students enjoyed a wonderful day there. The weather was great: we could see Africa so clearly from Europa Point!!! We also visited the Saint Michael's Caves, we went up the Rock and had an amazing sight. As usual, the apes came to welcome us!!! We also had some free time for luch and for some shopping. We learned some of Gibraltar history and had the chance of listening and speaking some English. Next year, we will go back!!!

The End of the Beginning

Last Tuesday we had a great time with theatre company Moving On and this year's play The End of the Beginning. The play dealt with the difficult situation of immigrants in foreign countries. Almenara and Salvador Rueda students had the chance of acting on stage because, as usual, the company didn't have enough actors!!

Have you got 4 euros to spare?

That little amount of money for a play in English in Teatro del Carmen. Once again the company Moving On is performing for us next Tuesday 12th March. Don't give it a second thought and join us if you are a 2º, 3º or 4º student. We'll have a good laugh at the theatre with The End of the Beginning!

Another Assistant Teacher at our School

We are so lucky we got another Assistant Teacher this year!!! Her name is Carmen Rocío Jiménez. She is about to finish her degree in "Estudios Ingleses" at the University of Málaga. She is taking part in an Apprenticeship University Programme for future teachers. As part of her Practice Programme, every Friday, Carmen, will enhance oral skills in some of the lessons in English language at our school. We hope she has a nice stay with us and students learn a lot.
